Release:     Nov 20, 2010                         Windham County Railroad Calendar

Old Windham county railroad scenes are featured in a just-released Windham County Railroad Calendar.  “This is really a nice picture booklet disguised as a calendar” says publisher David Allen of West Chesterfield. “We made high resolution scans and used nice glossy paper to make the pictures stand out.  I don’t think people will be throwing this one out at the end of the year”.

Locomotives and other sights from three Windham County rail lines are featured. Two railroads don’t exist any more, the West River Railroad and the Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington RR.

For Wilmington, there is a loaded log train headed south, and a photo of “The Jacksonville”, an old wood burning steam locomotive.  Brattleboro’s last steam locomotive (1956) is pictured along with engineer Pat Flynn, a Brattleboro resident.
On the West River Railroad we see the old West Dummerston and Newfane stations along with a view of the Jamaica depot with a grizzled old-timer sitting on the bank.

The calendars cost $12 and are available at Vermont Artisans Design and Everyone’s Books in Brattleboro, Bartleby’s Books in Wilmington and Village Square books in Bellows Falls.  For more information contact Dave Allen at info@old-maps.com, or check the web site for other store locations and information including old maps of the train routes:  www.vhist.com/calendars/railwindham
