7. OLD BURIAL YARD CEMETERY 1753 - @1883
This cemetery was located at the end of Newton Court & after 1848 south
of Main St.
The bend on Miles St. presently goes through the former, now lowered,
cemetery site. The graves were moved, starting at the end of 1803, to
mostly the Federal St.Cern. By about 1883 the cemetery was completely
removed. Also some burials went to Green River Cemetery and some to
North Meadows Cemetery. The report on the removal project, a copy was in
Greenfield Public Library, has disappeared. The Federal St. Cemetery
data base has a partial copy of its grave reburials.
